Experience and Budget:
-
Keep an open mind: as you interview with different doulas, you may find that the budget or preferences you initially had in mind may change
-
Doulas are professionals who provide physical, emotional, and educational support. The care and services they provide are invaluable. People who have used doulas before often express that doula care was worth the investment and improved outcomes. Please keep this in consideration. Rates vary and are dependent on a doula's individual experience & offerings. The following rates are just a rough estimate range of what you might generally expect:
-
Birth doula: starting around $1500, average around $2000-3500, up to $4000+ (labor/birth packages may vary)
-
Postpartum day: starting around $45/hr, average around $50-65/hr, up to $75+/hr
-
Postpartum night: starting around $55/hr, average around $60-75/hr, up to $85+/hr
-
If you're interested in a registry to help pay for doula services, please consider checking out Be Her Village

-
Generally, the more experience a doula has, the more expensive their services will be.
-
-
Timing: Doulas usually book their clients months in advance. Start the process of finding the right doula for you as soon as possible. While not impossible, it is unlikely that you will find a doula on short notice who meets all your requirements.
-
*Help Me Find a Doula! fees are non-refundable unless we are unable to provide you with a list of available doulas who meet your criteria.
**The service Blossom is providing is presenting you with a list of doulas that meet your criteria. All doulas are independent contractors who pay for a listing on Blossom's website. Interviews, background checks, and referrals from former clients are strongly suggested before engaging any professional for work in your home or with your family. Blossom does not conduct background checks, does not endorse any particular provider, and is not responsible for provider actions.
FAQs
Q: Are the doulas from Blossom’s referral service background checked?
A: Blossom does not conduct background checks. If you are interested in conducting a background check, please check and discuss with the doula directly. Thank you.
Q: Is it too late for me to find a doula? / When should I start looking for a doula?
A: It’s generally best to start the process of finding a doula as soon as possible. Doulas can often book up months in advance. It is usually very unlikely to find a doula that fits all your needs and is available on short notice. However, it is not impossible, and sometimes families are still able to find a doula at the last minute.
Q: What are the doulas’ rates? Can you tell me their prices?
A: We kindly ask/encourage you to call each doula directly to learn more about their experience, services, and rates. All the doulas are independent contractors who pay for a listing on Blossom's website. Each doula sets and controls their own rates. So it is between the families and doulas to discuss rates directly and negotiate the final rate agreement.
Q: Are the doulas from Blossom's referral service certified?
A: Certification and qualification are not necessarily the same thing.
Some of the doulas in Blossom's referral program are certified through an organization. There are various doula organizations out there (ex. DONA, CAPPA, ICEA, Cornerstone, and more.)
Some doulas in Blossom's referral program are trained, qualified, and have experience in their practice-- but they are not certified through an organization.
If a doula is not certified, it does not necessarily mean they're unqualified- it might simply mean they do not wish to be a member/affiliated with a particular organization.
But if you have questions about doula's certification/qualifications, it is always strongly recommended to speak directly with the doulas you interview.
