About Blossom Birth & Family
OUR MISSION
Blossom connects new and expectant families with services, resources and support for a healthy, informed and confident pregnancy and parenting journey.
Blossom is an independent community-based 501 (c)3 non-profit organization.
We serve women and their families during a very critical period in their life and help make the world a better place through their children. Our classes, groups and workshops are made possible with the help of one full-time executive director, 3 part-time staff and more than 35 independent contractors. We are also supported by sponsorships, grants and individual donations. All of us together are working to be your village.
OUR STORY
Blossom Birth Services was founded in 1999 by Anna Hurty and began in what used to be a dentist's office. As the need for what we provide expanded, so did our need for a new space.
Blossom has now had six homes in the last twenty years and landed at a marquee location at the Corner of California Ave and in Birch in Palo Alto.
This growth over the years has allowed for expanded services. In addition to the original offerings we are beginning to expand Blossom’s reach beyond the confines or our community space. In 2019 we helped launch the Doula Volunteer Program at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. This hospital serves Santa Clara County has more than 3K births per year. In 2020 we launched online classes and groups.
Community still remains a very important aspect to our staff, instructors and board, but with the increasing difficulty of getting around in the Bay Area, we have to meet parents where they are and provide this additional avenue to connect with Blossom and new parents like them.
Blossom has seen many changes over the years and is supported by a wise Board of Directors, hard working Executive Directors, dedicated staff, donors and volunteers.
Past ED's include: Anna Hurty, Elizabeth Green, Devi Borton, Dorothy Goor, Neri Life-Choma, Hillary Stamper, Pam Fox-Rollin, Shantell Herdon, Mora Oommen, and Dominique Vincent.
Thank you to birth workers across the bay especially old institutions like The Birth Place and its accompanying Resource Center for Pregnancy and Childbirth.
OUR FOUNDER
I founded Blossom because I believe parents-to-be need a village... a safe place to learn, share, be heard, participate.
They need factual unbiased information so that they can make the best decision for themselves as they journey into parenting... I wanted Blossom to be that place, and I'm thankful it continues to offer those opportunities to this day.
